Scott Syring - Head Coach and Asst. GM

This is Scott's second tenure as the Cherokee Head Coach as he spent the inaugural years (1992-1999) with the team leading them to multiple regular season and playoff championships including the National Championship in 1998 and National Runner Up in 1997. 

Scott played D1 hockey for The Ohio State University Buckeyes from 1985-1988.   Coach Syring received the All Big Ten Scholar Athlete Award in 1988 and multiple Buckeye of the Week and Buckeye of the Month awards. He was also a top 10 finalist in 1988 for the Danforth Award, an award given to the Athlete of the year based on sports contribution, academics, and community service of which nominations came from all athletes and all sports at The Ohio State University.  He is most proud of his academic accomplishments as well, receiving his diploma and graduating with a 3.02 GPA majoring in Communications with a Business emphasis.

Scott played his Junior hockey in the Detroit area for Compuware in 1984-1985 where his team won the Tier II National Championship and for Paddock Pools in 1982-1983, finishing 3rd at the Tier II National Championship .   He also spent his youth hockey years as a multiple year participant in the USA Hockey Olympic Training Program previously held in Colorado Springs, Co.

Scott has been involved with USA Hockey as an Assistant Coach for the MidAm District Select Teams and helps during the local, district, and regional USA Hockey camps as a coach and an evaluator.

Chris Tarsha - Associate Head Coach

Chris is entering his seventh season with the Cherokee. During the previous six seasons, the Cherokee have made the playoffs all six years, reached the Hurster Cup final four years and were the runner up at the Jr. Nationals in 2006.

Over ten years coaching experience at the U16, U18 and Junior levels. Has led three teams to the USA Hockey National Championships. Chris also won a USA National Championship in the U18 division in 1987.

Played college hockey at Ohio University where he helped lead the Bobcats to 4 straight ACHA National Championship appearances.

Had a brief stint with the Toledo Storm (ECHL) in 1994-1995 and 1995-1996.

Wayne Collins - Goalie Coach

Wayne is starting his third season with the Cherokee this year.

Coach Collins attended high school in Burlington, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, where he was chosen a member of the Boston Globe and Boson Herald First team in both his junior and senior years of high school.

Wayne received a scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University in 1981 and played on BGSU's teams that won 3 consecutive Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) League titles in 1982, 1983, and 1984.  In 1984, he and his teammates continued on to the "Frozen Four" in Lake Placid, NY, where they won the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey National Championship.

Prior to beginning his 9th year at Southview High School, Coach Collins headed the hockey program at Ottawa Hills High School for 16 years. He resides in Maumee, OH  and is an avid fisherman and golfer.

J. Fravor, “Big Mo” - Equipment Manager

J. Fravor A.K.A. “Big Mo” started with the Cherokee in 2007-2008, that year he also worked in the IHL with the Port Huron Icehawks after taking over equipment duties in February. The Icehawks went on to  make the Turner Cup Finals losing in 7 games. Prior to that year J. worked in the ECHL with the Toledo Storm as their assistant equipment manager in the final season for the Storm. “Big Mo” also has experience in the ECHL, helping the Trenton Titans as the head equipment manager in 2005-2006.

“Big Mo's” responsibilities include constant maintenence and sewing of the teams equipment, jerseys, nameplates, socks, etc.  He organizes packing of the bus for road trips, helps keep the locker room in professional order, helps with hydration of the team on game days, all which are very important in keeping the Cherokee looking good, feeling good, and staying organized.

Dr. Dan Hoffman - Team Physician

Dan Hoffman is in his fifth season with the Toledo Cherokee.  Originally from Cincinnati, he graduated from Xavier University and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  During his residency at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Dr. Hoffman--most folks just call him "Doc"--served as assistant team physician for football, most notably with the Blissfield Royals.  He has been board certified by the American Board of Family Practice since 1991 and received board certification in Emergency Medicine in 2008.

The Fulton County Health Center has been the site of his primary practice in emergency medicine for the past decade; and, he now serves there as the Medical Director.  In his efforts in continuing medical education, Dr. Hoffman has completed several courses through the American College of Sports Medicine and the Virginia Commonwealth University Sports Medicine updates.  His background allows him the ability to serve the athletic and primary care needs of the team.
