CHEROKEE PICK UP TWO GAME SWEEP

Toledo OH - The Toledo Cherokee picked up another sweep over the weekend in New York with two wins against divisional opponent the Southern Tier Xpress.
On Friday night the Cherokee earned a 6-1 win in the first game of the two game set. Michael Pisanti (Temperance MI) opened the scoring for Toledo. Kyle Downey (Canton MI) and Nikolas Verbosky (Rossford OH) assisted on the games first goal.
Brody Duncan (Toledo OH) made it 2-0 scoring on the power-play Evan Heldt (Sylvania OH) and Mark McGee (Canton MI) gathered assists.
McGee gave Toledo a 3-0 lead, Tyler Zalecki (Northwood OH) and Duncan picked up assists.
Cody Estrel (Sylvania OH) scored on a perfect two on one feed from Zalecki to put the Cherokee up 4-0. McGee also assisted on the goal.
After Southern Tier would score to make it 4-1, Cam Schwartz (Warren MI) would find the back of the net on the power-play Heldt and Dominic Pisanti (Temperance MI) assisted on the goal.
Zalecki would round out the scoring also with the man advantage making it 6-1. Duncan and McGee assisted on Toledo's 6th goal of the game.
Toledo was 4 for 7 on the power play, it is the second time this season the Cherokee have scored 4 power-play goals in a game. Southern Tier was 0 for 4 on the power-play.
"I thought our guys were very good Friday, we took advantage of our power-play chances and we were rewarded for it with the win." said head coach Kenny Miller
Glen Bates (Ida MI) made 20 saves for the win in net for Toledo.
On Saturday the Cherokee would jump out to a 3-0 lead before Southern Tier would add two goals in the third period, but it wasn't enough as Toledo would skate away with a 3-2 victory picking up all four points on the weekend.
Zach Swanson (Temperance MI) would strike first for Toledo on a 2 on 1 pass from Dominic Pisanti, Tristin Snyder (Oregon OH) picked up the second assist.
McGee gave Toledo a 2-0 lead scoring on the power-play to give Toledo a two goal lead after the first period. Zalecki and Estrel assisted on the tally.
Austin Turner (Temperance MI) would also score while on the man advantage, Heldt and Schwartz earned assists on Turner's 12th goal of the season.
Bates picked up his second win of the weekend and 5th in a row for Toledo making 30 saves.
"We started on time again on Saturday and jumped out o an early lead, I really like how our group responded even after giving up a couple of goals in the third we stuck to the game plan. I am really proud of all the guys that's not an easy place to play and we got the job done two nights in a row." added Miller
With the two wins Toledo sits alone in second place in the East division with a record of 21-10-4 good for 46 points.
The Cherokee return home Friday night when they play host to Metro Jets. Face off is set for 7:00PM
