NEWSDate: Dec 11, 2011 Toledo Splits Weekend With Cleveland
12/10/11 Cleveland 6 Toledo 7 James Steel operned a high scoring first period whe he and Joe Skrzynski teamed up to score in the opening thirty seconds of the game. Cleveland would come back and score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead before the pair of Steele and Skrzynski would strike again to tie the game, Cleveland finished the first period scoring though to take a 3-2 lead into the second period. Toledo's Christos Papaioannou (Nagle, Smiatacz) tied the game at three at the 3:31 mark of the second period but that lead didnt last long as Cleveland regained the lead just :15 later. Andrew Benyo(Fletcher, Smiatacz<2>) retied the game at the 10:22 mark and Christos Papaioannou would add two more goals to finish the second period scoring and completing the Hattrick. Austin Fletcher would add two assists and Patrick Smiatacz and Andrew Benyo would add one each on the Papaioannou goals to take a 6-4 Cherokee lead into the third. . Toledo's Ryan Kelly (Baker, Kepals) added another goal for the Cherokee at the 6: 44 mark of the third period and it is a good thing he did as Cleveland would strike for two more goals and Toledo hung on for the 7-6 win. Goaltender Lukas Gavalier made 24 stops in the win. 12/11/11 Cleveland 5 Toledo 2 After a scoreless first period Cleveland found the back of the net at the 10:54 mark of the second period. Toledo responded when Austin Fletcher (Neill,Hack) scored at the 13:48 mark. Cleveland answered back scoring at the 18:02 mark to carry a 2-1 lead into the third period. Cleaveland added to their lead at the 14:37 mark of the third period before Toledo's Joe Skrzynski (Benyo) could score the Cherokee second goal. Cleveland would go on to score two more goals and skate away with the 5-2 win. Goaltender Austyn Rodebush made 37 saves in the loss. Click here to go back to news articles |
